Salt is an essential component in food preservation. The process of salt curing meat, fish, or vegetables is called brining. Brining can be done with a variety of liquids including water, buttermilk, beer, wine, and other liquids that contain sugar.

A salt map is a project that involves the use of different salts to create an interesting visual effect. Salt maps are created by layering one color of salt on top of another, and then sprinkling the mixture over a surface. The salt will be absorbed into the surface, creating a unique pattern.
