Can you use Jack Daniels instead of bourbon? |

Enough with the bourbon, what about it’s alcoholic cousin, Jack Daniels? Where does it fall in the hierarchy of spirits? Is it a valid substitute for bourbon? Do you even have to use a spirit for your favorite cocktails?

Jack Daniels is one of the most famous bourbon brands in the world. It’s the whiskey equivalent of Coca-Cola, and is synonymous with the Southern States. In fact, if you are just now hearing about Jack Daniels, you probably live in the South. Jack Daniels is also the most expensive brand of bourbon, and could be used as a comparison to the price of a bottle of wine.

Bourbon and Jack Daniels are both made from the same ingredient—corn.  Jack Daniels is distilled from a mash of corn, while bourbon is made from a mash of corn, wheat and rye.  But with a few differences in the recipes, the two drinks are made from significantly different mashes.
