A Beginners Guide To Magic Butter: What Is It?

As more and more states are making recreational and medical marijuana legal, we are seeing so many unique ways to include the green dragon in our lives.

Today we are focusing on “Magic Butter.” We will explain what it is, how to make it, and how to use it.

What Is Magic Butter?

Magic butter has many names – Cannabutter, weed butter, green butter, and more. They all mean the same thing. Magic butter is butter that has been infused with cannabis.

It can be done with cannabis Sativa or cannabis India as the method doesn’t hamper either’s effects or flavors.

Although the concept of cannabis butter might seem new, remember that the plant has been around for centuries, and so has butter. Although most countries still consider weed more dangerous than helpful, others have reconnected or continuously held onto recipes for this magical plant.

What Is Weed Butter Used For?

Any time you would normally add butter to a recipe, you can add weed butter instead. People who need cannabis as part of their medication can find that smoking joints are unsavory and make them feel “dirty” due to the negative social stigma still attached to the medication.

Adding the weed into butter can allow them to digest the medicine without receiving a burnt taste or a pungent smell. This means you can take your supplements without having to look over your back or explain yourself to nosey people.

Some people prefer to add weed to baked goods or desserts, such as brownies. This is because the deep and rich flavor of the chocolatey goods balances well with the earthy taste. Others may like to add a tablespoon of magic butter to their sauces to create a creamy texture.

How To Make Magic Butter

There are two steps to making magic butter; the first requires you to decarb the weed, and the second is when you infuse normal butter with the cannabis. You can make the process super simple by using a decarboxylation machine, but the magical butter recipe below shows you how to create it from scratch.

Stage 1 – Decarboxylation

Decarboxylation is the full name for the decarbing process. Normally when you smoke weed, the heat is what creates the THC and CBD effect. But then you use cannabis without smoking it; you need to activate the cannabinoids in another way.

Decarboxylation does this without burning the plant.

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Sheet pan or glass baking dish
  • Oven
  • ½ an ounce of weed.

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Fahrenheit (104 degrees Celsius).
  2. Using your scissor, gently break apart the weed until fine. Don’t go crazy with the cutting; just make sure the texture is rollable as if for a joint.
  3. Lay the broken weed nugget onto your sheet pan or baking dish and put it in the oven for 20 minutes.
  4. Be sure to check on the weed to make sure it isn’t burning. When the color has changed from a bright green to a dark browny-green, you can take it out.

And that’s how you decarb cannabis. With this step completed, you can move on to infusion.

Stage 2 – Infusion

This method is just as simple as the one above, but you need to use a cheesecloth. This isn’t an item most people have around the home, which means you might feel a little daunted when it comes to using one. But know that the method is straightforward, and you will be a pro cheesecloth user in no time.

Materials:

  • Cheesecloth or strainer
  • Thermometer
  • Wooden spoon
  • Saucepan
  • Container
  • One and ½ cups of water
  • 8 ounces of melted butter
  • ½ ounce of decarbed cannabis

Method:

  1. Put the butter and water in the saucepan and bring it up to low heat.
  2. Once the butter has melted (if not melted already), add in the cannabis. Mix it with the wooden spoon and cover.
  3. Let the mixture simmer for around 4 hours, but make sure to stir it every half an hour to stop burning.
  4. During this time, use your thermometer to make sure the heat doesn’t go over 180 degrees Fahrenheit (82 degrees Celsius).
  5. When the 4 hours are up, use your strainer or cheesecloth to strain the mixture into a container. A cheesecloth makes this easier as you can create a strong shape in its fabric.
  6. Allow the butter to cool to room temperature.
  7. Once cooled, you can put it in the refrigerator for six months or use it straight away.

Summary

Magic butter is weed mixed into butter through a method of Decarboxylation and Infusion. It allows you to get the benefits of the plant without having to smoke it.
