In a country where a traditional Spanish meal consists of a hot, fresh-baked bread, a bowl of fresh shelled peanuts, a plate of olives, a pinch of salt and a piece of cheese, it’s not exactly surprising that the traditional lunch menu here consists of a bowl of rice, a tomato, a slice of bread and a glass of red wine. In fact, Spain is known for its wide range of fresh breads.

I guess you could say that I don’t really do typical. And if that’s the case, you probably don’t see me all that often. I’m not saying that because I don’t like to be seen. It’s just that sometimes I’m more comfortable behind the scenes than in the limelight.

I’m traveling to Spain for an internship this summer, and I was wondering what the typical lunch foods are in Spain. This is probably considered a silly question, but I’d like to know the answer before I go. The last time I was in Spain I had a sandwich with ham and cheese at a coffee shop. There’s also the traditional Spanish “bocadillo”. The dairy and wheat based “bocadillo/”bocadillos” usually contain one or more of the following – cheese, tuna, chicken, ham, ham and cheese, ham and cheese and tomatoes (sometimes you can find them with chicken).
