Do not eat vegetables if eating them makes you feel better.

Vegetables are vegetables. Vegetables are vegetables. It’s pretty simple. But, you know, there are some people out there who argue that veggie is not a word. Is it? I hope, for the sake of all veggie-lovers everywhere, that these folks are just being silly. If that’s the case, then I have a challenge for them. I’m going to cover some possible pronunciation changes of the word “vegetable”, and I’d like them to be the ones to say them.

The pronunciation of vegetables is something that has fascinated me for a long time. If you talk to native speakers of English, you will often hear that they are ‘vegetables’ or even ‘vegetables plural’. But if you ask an English native what the difference is between ‘vegetables’ and ‘vegetables plural’, they will usually reply that it’s the plural, not the singular. So what’s the difference? Well, it’s not really a difference at all! The plural of ‘vegetables’ is ‘vegetables’, just like the plural of ‘table’ is ‘tables’.
