So there’s a ton of tutorials out there on how to make air dry clay without cornstarch, but I just wanted to share with you a technique that I’ve been using for years now.

If you’ve ever had the opportunity to watch the process of making clay from scratch, you’ve probably noticed it’s not quite the same as flipping a pancake. It’s textures are far more interesting than a wadded up ball, and it’s ability to hold its shape during the baking process is amazing.

Air drying clay does not react with water in the same way as kiln-fired clay does, and it cannot be reworked after it has hardened. Before painting, clay must be fully dried; the time it takes may vary depending on the size and thickness of your creation, but it typically takes between 24-72 hours.

As a result, the issue becomes: what is the best air dry clay? Hearty Clay Super light-weight from Japan or Martha Stewart clay are the finest air dry clays for creating flowers. Makin’s clay is my favorite air dry clay that dries firm and has a texture similar to polymer clay. For my figures and miniatures, I utilized Makin’s air dry clay.
