The criteria for judging a food competition can be quite subjective, but there are some key facts that can help guide how you determine the winners. To start, be thorough and consistent in your judging process. If you are judging a competition, ensure you have clear criteria and that the criteria are appropriate to the competition. For example if you are judging a hot dog contest, make sure that your criteria is not based on the way a food is cooked. For example, if you are judging a hot dog contest, you should not judge it on the way the bun is buttered.

I recently discovered that there are some people on Facebook who have expressed a preference for certain foods. They have based this preference on the fact that they are less fattening and have a lower fat content.  I don’t know very much about food and nutrition so decided to do some research to see if this was true.  I found that most of the food which people prefer is low calorie food.  It is very possible that this is indeed the case.

We’ve all been there. You’ve come up with a killer recipe and you have an idea of how you can make it a success. You’re thinking of ways to get it to the masses. You’re thinking of ways to get it on the table and on plates. Anywhere. Yup. That last part is important. When a recipe you want to try is limited to a certain venue, it gets harder to pull it off. The challenge, of course, lies in making it fit the criteria.

Execution, Appearance, and Taste are the three criteria that are evaluated on a scale of one to ten.

  1. The Appearance is the first item you will evaluate utilizing the EAT Method (A of eat).
  2. A stands for appearance in the EAT Method.
  3. E stands for Execution in the EAT Method.
  4. T stands for Taste in the EAT Method.

After all, how can you evaluate a dessert contest?

Each dessert submission is eligible for up to twenty-five (25) points per judge.

  1. a. Appearance: Three (3) points may be awarded for appearance.
  2. b. Flavor: A maximum of five (5) points may be awarded.
  3. d. Texture/Consistency: Five (5) points are available.
  4. f. Taste in general A maximum of seven (7) points may be awarded.

In addition, how do you rate a dish? Assess the five senses’ perceptions of food, including sight, fragrance, taste, texture, and consistency. Define your criteria and expectations for each meal, then check to see whether the finished product meets them. Aromas such as tangy, herby, earthy, and so on.

The issue then becomes, what is the best way to eat?

The World Food Championships’ own unique scoring method and procedure, the E.A.T. TM Methodology, enables all WFC competition categories to be evaluated on the same criteria, consistently. Each submission will be evaluated based on three main factors: execution, appearance, and taste.
