When it comes to dyeing mini marshmallows, it doesn’t take a pro to get it right or make sure you’re doing it right. But the thing is, professional or not, there are many things that can go wrong when you dye a marshmallow. Which is why, when asked about dying mini marshmallows, I always get a lot of questions about the process and how to avoid mistakes.

Dyeing marshmallows is a big thing at my house. I have a large box of candy colors from when I used to work at a candy factory. My mom is a pretty good painter, so she comes up with fun ways to incorporate the colors into pumpkin and Christmas decor, and we do a lot of it around Halloween.

This is the most common question I get asked by my friends and family. The truth is, it’s super simple, and I’ve got the exact technique right here for you! This is my favorite method for creating different colors in a single batch of mini marshmallows. The messiest part about this whole process is the coloring itself, but it’s really the easiest part. You just have to stir the ingredients together and let the colors blend. It’s fast, fun, and so easy! Because we’re dealing with such precise measurements, I’ve written up a step-by-step example with pictures to help you along.

Fill small dishes with about a quarter cup of water each. Mix 3-6 drops of each food coloring hue together. As you would while coloring Easter eggs, adjust the droplets to make the colors brighter or darker. After 1 minute in the water, remove the marshmallows and place them on a cooling rack to dry.
